Thanks for the heads up and the background on when fires went through the area last.

Crisis Wire is the outgrowth of an earlier project that happened during the San Diego Fire where Twitter was used to coordinate – Nate Ritter is one person on that project so he has some first hand experience in what real time mobile text based emergency communications is like.

According to a professor who lives in the faculty homes called Las Barrancas at least 13-15 homes were lost. Alum ’72

The old name for the math building when I was there was biology lab. 😉

    Great info, Susan, thanks.

I have to add, I was really impressed with every one of the kids I heard or saw interviewed. They answered questions in a forthright manner, and if that meant they mentioned God, praying, retrieving their Bibles, they included that as if it was as natural as breathing. Good. Nothing sounded like they wanted to “talk religious” because the cameras were rolling, nor did they shy away from it.

Just so you all know, the Prayer Chapel is still standing. The fire came right up to it, but didn’t burn it down. I’m not sure exactly how many of the faculty housing burnt down. Last night at around 3 I heard that there were at least 6 and I’m pretty sure there are more than that. I have pictures up on facebook if you want to see some of the campus: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=48274&l=e2858&id=629733729

Thanks so much Brandon for the fotos!!!! Good to see how much of the old place still stands. Just saw this LA Times foto series, including one of Bauder Hall. I hear that Clark S bit it, too. I lived there, once.

Ya, I used to live in Q and before me my dad lived in R back in the day. I think by now most people are off campus. It was such a blessing that none of the major buildings burned. I know the Math building and a couple other older buildings were scheduled to be demolished today, so their burning may have almost made it easier. I just read on the Santa Barbara Independent that 14 faculty houses were burnt down.

Actually, come to think of it, I lived in Clark R as well. Preddy, Preddy. Name sounds familiar. It’s Bauder Hall that makes me so sad. When we did psych experiments with rats, I had ben reading the Dragonriders of Pern series, and I made a sign for the sheds that held the rats: “Bauder Weyr”
