Next Monday evening in Sierra Madre: WriteGirl

Monday, March 3, 7-8:30 pm. A WriteGirl reading from the new anthology, Lines of Velocity. The location: Youth Activity Center: 611 E. Sierra Madre Blvd. (Between Baldwin and Sierra Madre) [map]

WriteGirl is a nonprofit organization that pairs professional women writers with teenage girls for weekly one-on-one mentoring. There’s also an in-schools program where WriteGirl teaches creative writing in a classroom (or after-class) setting.

I’m a volunteer with WriteGirl. And yes, I have a piece published in the new anthology. It’s a poem about Doc M’s mother, written not long before her death.

(can I just say how thrilled I am to go to an event for an L.A.-based organization that is a mere 5 to 10 minutes from my house? I’ve braved rush hour traffic for gasp! two hours to get to some other place in greater L.A. for WriteGirl; I’m so! very! glad! to have something local to participate in. If you’re local, take advantage of the proximity and come on down!)
