Memorial Day events in the San Gabriel Valley

For the first time ever, last year I attended Memorial Day ceremonies. Blogged it here. I recorded a brief conversation with my congressman and it’s part of a podcast I did A tale of two congressmen (the other congressman is Ron Kind, the man who started the Veterans History Project) At the event I attended, I was most impressed by the roll call of veterans in attendance who each told their name, their rank and branch and location of service.

I’m doing research on local Memorial Day events taking place Monday. Don’t know which one I’m attending, but I offer them here for yall.

Pasadena, Memorial Park (raymond/walnut/holly) 10 AM: Vietnam Veterans of America, American Legion and the Navy League present a Memorial Day observance.

Monrovia: Live Oak Cemetery, (Duarte/California blvds) 10 am:

Arcadia-Monrovia Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2070 invites the community to join with it to mark Memorial Day this Monday, May 28, at 10:00 a.m. at Live Oak Cemetery, 200 E. Duarte Road in Monrovia. The ceremony will include presentations of honors from numerous local veterans organizations and remarks from the mayors of three local communities. The keynote speaker will be 1LT Robert C. J. Parry of the California Army National Guard. A Monrovia resident and Iraq war veteran, 1LT Parry’s personal writings on the conflict have been published by the Los Angeles Times and Los Angeles Daily News.

South Pasadena: The city’s web site lists a Memorial Day Service being held at 8:30 am at the War Memorial Building on Fair Oaks Avenue.

Sierra Madre: 11am at Pioneer Cemetery by VFW, followed by food at Hart Park House in Memorial Park at 12:30, followed by more acticvities and ceremonies at 3pm at Memorial Park. Source: Sierra Madre/Monrovia/Arcadia weekly

Arcadia: 10th Annual “Remembering Our Veterans and Their Families” 11:30 Special Tribute, Event runs from 10am 3pm at Arcadia County Park, Santa Anita and Huntington Drive. Source: Arcadia/SierraMadre/Monrovia Weekly

Hosted by Los Angeles County, this free event will feature skydivers; a fly over by WWII fighter planes; live music; free immunizations and health screenings; and employment, veterans and legal assistance information.

Can’t find any info on an event at Lacy Park in San Marino, though. (where I went last year) Do you have any info? If so, please leave a comment.
