Getting cool WordPress functionality into ExpressionEngine

So WordPress has this cool thing. If you type a hyphen three times, like this --- WordPress will convert it to an elegant em-dash, like so: —. Two dashes -- get changed to an en-dash–like so.

In the two and a half years since this site has been in WordPress, I’ve grown dependent on that feature. Now I’ve been writing in ExpressionEngine (soon I’ll link to the site) and found myself typing three hyphens. Which shows up as three hyphens. Ow. how to easily transfer to an emdash? Ah! The SmartyPants plug in, an adaptation of the work done by Daring Fireball. Smarty—named for smart quotes. But—with happy hyphens, too.
