WordPress search Pages: notes to self

For WordPress site that has lots of pages (like for a WordPress as CMS with many “pages”), the searchbox query needs to be altered in order to include Pages. A Hack got made into a Plugin: Search Pages. Download, install, activate. Voila. Pages are searched. Nice.

(I really should try whatever del.icio.us links-for-the-day trick that I see Hal and Al using, for my “here’s how to do something in WordPress” notes to self. But it’s easier to just do a notes to self post. Cause I’m trying to do something, not do-something-that-sorta-relates to the something I’m really trying to do.)

Now… What if you want to customize the appearance of search results? Like to show title and brief excerpt rather than whole posts? The question is raised here, and Wiki explains template hierarchy here. Upshot: Create a template called search.php for display of search results.

Wow, “notes to self” as a category is so obvious, I would have never thought of it… Thanks! ๐Ÿ™‚
