Speaking of old history….

I was searching for public domain music from the 1920s last night and came across Dismuke.org. What an incredible find! Dismuke has been collecting old 78 records since childhood, and for a few years now has been digitally transcribing them, cleaning ’em up, and posting them to his site every week,, a few songs at a time. They’re posted in Real Audio format, with text annotations of play time, label number and other notes. The whole thing is “brought to you by” advertisers from waaaay back. More recently-posted weekly hits have files for download, earlier ones are streaming. He’s also got a turn of the century music section. This page has a song from 1901. That recording is over one hundred years old. Wow. Say it backwards: wow.
